We’ve all heard the stories:
- a pet cat jumps up onto the windowsill every day, several minutes before its owner arrives home
- a pet dog barks just before a certain person calls on the phone, as if knowing the call was being made
- a pet parrot, who’s learned to talk, says things seemingly in response to what its owner is thinking
- a beloved pet, somehow lost on a family trip, miraculously finds its way home – sometimes traveling hundreds or even thousands of miles
How are these things possible? Do our pets – perhaps even all animals – possess some innate psychic ability that allows them to tune in to human brainwaves or even to see the future? Or are they just more sensitive than humans to visual, aural, magnetic and other subtle environmental factors and changes – and because we are not aware of these subtleties, their actions seem miraculous?

There are creatures that lurk out there in the dark, that haunt the isolated forests of the world, that hide in the icy depths of the deepest lakes. They appear unexpectedly and inexplicably, then vanish just as mysteriously, usually leaving witnesses dumbfounded, frightened and, unfortunately in most cases, without a shred of evidence. Yet the eyewitness stories of these creatures persist, haunting the darkness as well as our imaginations. Here, for your consideration (and in no particular order) are the top 10 most mysterious, unexplained creatures of all time. Some are more likely to really exist than others, but we’ll leave that judgment up to you.

A small, uninhabited town in Texas has been sold on the internet auction site, eBay, to a buyer in Italy for a little over $3m (£1.45m).
The town, called Albert, is about 100km (62 miles) outside San Antonio and features a schoolhouse, a dancehall and a bar.
The town’s current owner, Bobby Cave, said he was checking the identity of the buyer, to confirm the deal.
He added he had several other serious bids should the sale fall through.
Mr Cave, 47, an estate agent, said he sold the land after three-and-a-half years as he was ready to move on to his next project.
“I bought it with the intention of creating a little family camping venue where people could come out and drink and enjoy local live music,” he told PA news agency.
He said the town’s population consisted of himself and a groundsman at weekends.
The winning buyer will take over an icehouse created from the frame of the old general store, a pavilion, an 85-year-old dance hall, a tractor shed and a three-bedroom house, together with peach and pecan orchards.
